MICK COOK
BOARD MEMBER (EXTERNAL)
Mick Cook, Non-Executive Director. Mick joined the board of Alpine early in 2021 to provide advice on structuring the business for growth in the future.
Mick has worked in the offshore sector for 40+ years. After four years working as a contractor in offshore site investigation, Mick joined an embryonic geoscience and environmental consultancy, Hydrosearch, in 1984. He spent the next 20 years as a partner and shareholder, building the business to one of the largest of its kind in the world. In 2003, the Company was bought by the RPS Group, a FTSE 250 London-listed company, and Mick was appointed Managing Director – Operations of the newly formed Energy Division. The business expanded some 10-fold over the next five years (in part due to some 20 acquisitions) before Mick semi-retired in 2008. Since then, Mick has run his own consultancy providing commercial advice mainly to companies in the offshore energy sector and has held, and holds a number of non-executive board positions.
Mick graduated with an MSc in marine geophysics, geotechnics and oceanography from the School of Ocean Sciences (SOS), Bangor University, North Wales in 1979 and is now Chair of SOS Alumni Association. Mick is a Fellow of the Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) and until recently was a Council Member and Treasurer of the SUT. He also Chaired the Offshore Site Investigation and Geotechnics Committee of the SUT for ~10 years in the mid-1990s.
Being semi-retired allows Mick to pursue his many interests outside of work that include attempting to stave off old age through fitness, including walking, cycling, swimming, gym-work and tennis, planning and maintaining his extensive formal and wildlife garden, photography, music, wine and socializing with family and friends. Mick is an avid rugby fan. He used to play and coach rugby but is now confined to watching far too much of it.
Mick has always had a real zest for life and tries to live by the saying ‘Life is far too short – live every day to the full’.
Mick has a real passion for the offshore Energy Industry, and he gets a real kick out of ‘helping businesses to make the most of what they have’ and helping people to ‘achieve their true potential’.
