Alpine is pleased to announce that it will be taking delivery of a Geomil Manta 200, 20-ton seafloor CPT in January! Representatives from our geotechnical team will be travelling to the Netherlands for acceptance tests and we expect to have the unit in the US by the end of February. We are proud to say that this will be the first Manta 200 sold to a U.S. headquartered company.
The Geomil Manta 200 represents a significant addition to Alpine’s geotechnical services allowing us to provide data acquisition for advanced engineering design for offshore installations including wind turbine foundations. Over the years, Alpine has developed a respected reputation for performing shallow geotechnical work (CPTs, Vibracores, Thermal Resistivity), primarily for cable, pipelines, and nearshore civil engineering projects. We have conducted many nearshore drilling and down hole projects for HDD work, but we have been constrained by water depths in our deeper geotechnical offerings. The investment in the Manta 200, with its deep push capabilities, is a natural evolution in the development of our geotechnical capabilities.
The Geomil CPT is capable of sampling in excess of 50m (soil dependent). The deep push is achieved through an innovative casing system which helps limit rod deflection and friction, greatly improving the chances of successfully reaching target penetration. A Seismic Cone system option will also be included in the package we can offer to our clients.
The unit can be deployed off a variety of vessels, at costs that are significantly lower than using a conventional drill ship. This system also can lighten its reaction force to 10 tons, providing the flexibility to deploy the CPT on potentially less costly vessels, with reduced lifting capability, when shallower pushes are required for applications such as cable and pipeline surveys.
